since returning to sports in 2016 after a few years out by choice i only began to encounter injury’s in my first season back playing soccer. when playing underage i hardly ever encountered any injury playing either gaa or soccer, i just got on with it as i went on and didnt take much notice if i ever did get hurt on the field. maturing now i see injury rehabilitation as a form of self care and preventing an injury coming about a second time around. injury can be in my own experience most definetly detrimental towards the athletes mindset and confidence even infiltrating its way into ones personal life. The worst injury i had encountered was bursitis in my knee which effected me for a number of months. it effected me participating and kept me on the sidelines for a number of soccer matches and when i did return to the field it started impacting my performance in matches and effected my confidence while on field as i was still in a way dehabilitated by the niggling injury. the fact i put so much mentally into my participation in sports meant that injury’s can impact me a lot mentally especially if it renders me unable to play my favourite sports. with the ongoing pandemic of covid 19 gripping the nationj in widespread fear the junior soccer season is postponed for the team being leaving me lukily with a lot of recovery time to get over the knee sprain or dislocation i suffered in our last soccer match. I still however find it tough as with the country engaged in a sort of lock-down im finding it difficult to exercise on my own while suffering this injury but i am aware that even a good scenic walk can help the mentality and help ones head detach from the current health scare crisis we are facing here in Ireland. we gotta do what we can to stay fit and work with what we have at our disposal in such an uncertain time where we are all unsure as to when sports will return locally.
