another historic moment im going to reflect on now with all sport halted amidst the crisis, its sometimes good to reflect on past triumphs..one of the greatest games i ever witnessed as an arsenal fan was in the 2006 champions league season we went away to Real Madrid with a depleted squad in search of a crucial result. Our league form had suffered a lot that season and we found ourselves outside of the top 4 for the first time under arsene wenger. with our league form struggling we set our sights on a good champions league run and this is one of the moments that turned our season around.. got us to a final v barcelona and against all odds considering the deficit we made it back into 4th place to secure champions league football for the following season but it was this night away to a star studded real madrid team that i recall the most from that season.. it was also our final season in higbury stadium before we moved to the emirates so there was no better season for a champions league miracle.. well i had thought so anyway. we went into the game away in madrid with a depleted squad with some regulars ruled out through injury and some players playing well out of position. its important to recall we had a great spine to that team, the big German Jens Lehman in goals, cesc Fabregas in the middle and thierry henry leading the line up front as our major goal threat and indeed it was the Latter who imposed himself on the madrid defence and scored an unbelievable individual Goal that will go down in History as one of his most vital champions league goals. with the away goal snatched by our most valuable player we defender resolutely and accompanied by a bit of luck going our way we got the win and our season started to turn around. we beat Juventus at home 2-0 in the quarter finals and faced another spanish outfit villareal led by the great juan roman riquelme. riquelme saw his penalty saved by Lehman and we were then through the final to face that great barcelona team led by Ronaldinho the creative spark in their own arsenal.. although big Sol campbell made an 11 year old davie have some great hope of the ultimate miracle occuring a cynical foul by Lehman to prevent a clear goal saw us reduced to 10 men and barca pipped us in the end by a single goal margin.. that was the first time i remember crying over sport and because i love arsenal it wasn’t the last time i cried either!! thats the joys of sport it touches emotionally from such a distance we love our team and support from a distance at times but that love never changes.. although i see my team struggle i can never see myself quit as a fan so until next time stay safe! and i hope we seen are back to normal with sport or i could find myself becoming a 24-7 blogger LOL.. Stay safe look after your mental health, yours in sport, Davie …
