the arsenal invincibles

completely off point but think its time to change the topic away from the lack of sport or social outings and the ongoing health scare of covid so gonna change it something historical and give a little background one of the most successful and my favourite team of all time the arsenal unbeatable team of 03-04 who went undeafeted for a regular 38 game english season and went a total of 49-0 in league football. lukily enough for me as a child following sports this was my third year as an arsenal fan and to witness such unprecedented success along with such an eye catching invincible record was really appealing in fact i thought at the time being one of the few arsenal fans in school that many more would then be fans aswel but i guess it was not to be ..the team itself had humble enough beginnings, the manager arsene wenger had recruited most of the squad through either the academy or ligue1 in france for reduced prices in them times. he placed his faith in these players and trusted his instincts.. these under-rated acquisitions brought great success to the club. players trusted by wenger developed at an abnormal rate and incorporated the distinctive style wenger encouraged his team to play. wenger gave the players freedom to express themselves and encouraged a possession based indirect game. This Arsenal team always dominated possession and had a brilliant midfield full of genius and true grit with the likes of gilberto silva and our captain veira in the engine room flanked by the magical pires and the pacey freddie ljungberg. our defence unlike now was very solid back then particularly due to the imposing prescence of goalkeeper jens lehmann and big sol campbell. leading the line up front we had the ice cool head of dennis bergkamp who often acted as a ten creative player leaving thierry henry as the furthest player forward. that season of 03-04 thierry henry was in his peak and secured the premier league golden boot and was our most valuable player that season. At the moment we really lack the strenght and spark that the invincibles 11 held in their armoury but then again it has to be said it is often impossible to emulate the greats in Life.. And this arsenal team was one of the greatest… although a child at the time i am grateful to have witnessed the performances of this team in a very competitive rivalry with united at that time but they were no match for us we went unbeatable that year .. Hopefully as a team we reach similar heights in the near Future !!… Stay safe..
